
Ocosta Junior High proved to be the best of the Twin Harbors in 7th and 8th grade Knowledge Bowl competition this year. Ocosta’s 8th graders had the highest score in the past ten years over the course of the four meets, finishing 96 points ahead of runner-up Hoquiam.
Ocosta won all four meets this year. First team members included Daniel Quinby, Gerrick Sweet, Alexi Most, Teal Mitby, Raleigh Anderson, Kennedy Merino and Paul Bjornsgard.
In the first meet, the Wildcats dominated the nearest team, beating Hoquiam by 32 points, 98-66. In the second meet, they defeated Hoquiam and Elma 84-64. In the third meet, Ocosta brought home another blue ribbon by defeating Montesano 93-69. Ocosta continued its winning ways in the final meet, edging Montesano 76-68, despite missing Most for the entire meet and Sweet for half the meet.
All the meets were held at Grays Harbor College over the past two months. Teams not previously mentioned included North Beach, Willapa Valley, and Wishkah Valley. Ocosta, North Beach, and Montesano all had two teams competing this year. Ocosta’s second team took 8th place overall out of twelve teams that competed.
