Lifelong South Beach resident, Ernie Summers, 82, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 20, 2015. He was born Jan. 12, 1933 to Houston and Eva (Menenhall) Summers in Raymond, Wash.
Ernie spent his childhood in Tokeland, Wash. with his family. As he grew up, he fished on his father’s boat until he was old enough to have his own. He owned four boats in his career. Ernie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
In September of 1956, Ernie married Julie Hayne in North Cove. In October of 1957, their daughter Eva was born and in March of 1962 their daughter Jill was born.
Ernie was the founder of the Washington Dungeness Crab Fishermen’s Association. He worked hard with state and federals officials to get more help for local fishermen. Ernie retired from fishing in 2000. He loved making yard art and watching western movies.
Ernie is survived by his wife Julie at the family home in Grayland; his daughters Eva (Bill) Stute of Westport and Jill Summers of Mountlake Terrace and her partner Eric Poling; brother Ray of Cosmopolis; grandson Jacob Stute of Napavine, Wash.; great granddaughter Abigale Stute of Forks, Wash. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Charles and Don and his sister, Adeline Powell.
