Bellingham man critically injured in crash with deer on SR105

A Bellingham man suffered critical injuries Wednesday morning, Dec. 9, when his car crashed into a deer on SR105 near Milepost 34 at approximately 7:40 a.m.

Shea Austin Baumgart, 30, was driving a white ‘03 Chevrolet Impala southbound on SR105 in Ocosta, when a deer crashed into the driver’s side door and through the window according to the Washington State Patrol.

According to the State Patrol, Baumgart was knocked unconscious and the two passengers in the car - Jacob J. Jackson, 21, and Jacob R. Justiniano, 20, both Friday Harbor residents, managed to control the car until it stopped alongside the highway near Pirates Way.

Neither Jackson nor Justiniano required medical aid. According to the State Patrol memo, Baumgart and Jackson were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Baumgart suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, then later transferred to St. Peter Hospital in Olympia in critical condition.

Due to privacy laws, no information is available on Baumgart’s current medical status.
