The Ocosta Wildcat boys basketball team members show off their District 4 2B 5th place trophy following the win over Mossyrock.

The Ocosta High School boys basketball team clinched their spot at the 2B Hardwood Classic regionals competition starting Saturday when they defeated Raymond at Black Hills High School on Feb. 18, guaranteeing the Cats one of six slots available to move on to regional competition.

A 44-30 loss to Onalaska last Friday placed the team in competition on Saturday against Mossyrock to determine which would take 5th and 6th place in the final District competition standings. The Wildcats won that contest 75-66 and took home 5th place hardware.

This season marks the end of a 21-year dry spell that saw no OHS teams make it to a district tournament game and 44 years since the Wildcats have qualified for regionals.

Ocosta will hit the boards against Morton-White Pass - winners of the District 4 2B District Championship - at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at W.F. West High School in Chehalis. All community members are encouraged to attend the game to support the Wildcats.

Community pep rally

All South Beach community members also are encouraged to attend a communitywide pep rally for the OHS Boys basketball team on the eve of their first game at Regionals Saturday morning.

The rally will start at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow evening, Friday, Feb. 27, in the Ocosta Jr/Sr High School parking lot near the Community Gym.

Decorate your vehicle, bring your signs, wear your Wildcat colors and enjoy hot dogs, chips, cookies and soft drinks, as the South Beach community celebrates this great team’s record this season and wishes them well at Regionals.
