The first of a minimum of three Westport Crime Watch Team training sessions will take place at 6 p.m. at Ocosta Jr/Sr High School on Wednesday, May 20. This training is only for those who have signed up in advance and completed and passed the mandatory background application process. If you have signed up and have not completed your paperwork, be sure to submit it to the Westport Police Department no later than May 19.
More participants welcome
If you did not attend one of the two introductory meetings held recently explaining the Crime Watch Team program, you are still eligible and encouraged to apply for the training. You must have a completed and cleared application on file prior to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, in order to attend. The application process includes a background investigation, criminal history and driver’s license check.

You may pick up an application form at the Westport Police Station weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Your application form must be notarized. You may do that at Westport City Hall during regular business hours at no cost.
Police Academy grads not signed up
Additionally, if you completed the recent Citizens Police Academy program and wish to join the Crime Watch team, but have not informed Westport Police Clerk Laura Wallace, please call her prior to May 19 at 268-9197 to let her know that you want to participate and will be attending the course.
