Ocosta Jr. High girls track team undefeated for second year in a row

The end of the regular Junior High track and field season resulted in the 8th grade girls remaining undefeated for the second year in a row, posting a 6-0 record over all opponents.

The 7th grade girls compiled a record of 5-1. The boys’ teams both had three wins this year.

All four teams compete in the league meet today at North Beach at 3:30 p.m. Results will be posted in next week’s edition.

Records broken:

Three boys records have been broken so far this year.

Paul Bjornsgard annihilated the 8th grade boys’ turbo javelin record posted by James Benn in 2010 - 161’5” to 116’6”. His throw is the 2nd best in the state for 8th graders and 5th best in the United States.

Brandon Thomas shattered the 7th grade boys turbo javelin record set by Joe Wardlow in 2013 - 140’10” to 94’4”. Thomas is currently the state leader for 7th graders and is 6th in the U.S.

Ryan Anderson set a new mark in the boys’ 7th grade triple jump, bettering his brother Luke’s record set in 2010 - 33’ to 30’9”. Ryan holds the 2nd best mark in the state for 7th graders.

Alexi Most currently has the 5th best pole vault mark in the state for 8th grade girls at 7’.

Austin McDonald currently has the 10th best discus throw in the state for 7th graders at 100’6”.
