Members of the Ocosta High School Class of 2015 will be honored at their graduation ceremony on Friday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s Jr/Sr High gym.
Each year, the student or students with an equal highest grade point average in the class is named Valedictorian. The student or students with the second-highest GPA is name Salutatorian. The highest academic achievers for the OHS Class of 2015 are Luke Anderson and Bryce Hongell.
Luke Anderson - Valedictorian
With a straight-A 4.0 grade-point-average and graduating with High Honors, Luke Anderson has been named Valedictorian of the Ocosta High School Class of 2015.
Luke is the son of Aaron and Chris Anderson of Ocosta. He has attended Ocosta Schools since kindergarten. Her favorite subject this year is math.
Luke plans to attend Northwest University to major in Education, with a desire to become a teacher and coach.
Bryce Hongell - Salutatorian
With a 3.811 grade point average, and also graduating with High Honors, OHS senior Bryce Hongell has been named Salutatorian of the Ocosta High School Class of 2015.
Bryce is the son of Ron and Cyndi Hongell of Bay City. He has attended Ocosta Schools for the past six years. His favorite classes this year include math, science and physical education.
Bryce plans to pursue a career on the water. To that end, he will attend Clatsop Community College to earn his 100-ton license and then transfer to the California Maritime Academy to earn his Unlimited Master’s License.
High Honors
Students earning High Honors not only must have a cumulative high school grade-point-average of at least 3.50 through the first term of their senior year, but also need to complete a prescribed list of advanced level coursework.
Both Anderson and Hongell will wear the coveted cord at graduation that signifies their High Honors status.
