Cancer support group

May 7 - A cancer support group will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in the parish hall at Calvary Lutheran Church, at the corner of Oak and Sumner in Aberdeen.

The support group is for patients, families, survivors, caregivers and those wanting to talk, listen, learn and find hope.

The group meets every Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m.

Monthly Writers Group

May 9 - South Beach Writers Group meets from Noon to 2 p.m. in the Westport library meeting room for writers high school age and older.

Bring an excerpt to read: Poem, short story, blog or book chapter. The goal is to inspire and encourage fellow writers. New members always welcome.

The group meets the second Saturday of each month. More info: 268-0081

Art Journaling group

May 9 - An art journaling group meets from 10 a.m. to noon on the second and fourth Saturday each month at the South Beach Arts Center at 188 W. Ocean Ave.

The group is open to everyone with no obligation to attend each month. Just pay $7 each session. All share resources, techniques, tips, and tricks.

GH Genealogy Society

May 9 - Grays Harbor Genealogy Society will meet Saturday at the Hoquiam Timberland Library at 621 K St. Clarence Pittack of Coleman Mortuary will talk about the history of the funeral homes of the area. Doors open by 9:30 a.m. with the meeting starting at 10 a.m. Visitors welcome.

N. Pacific County Watch

May 12 - The North Pacific County Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held in the Shoalwater Bay Tribal meeting room starting at 6 p.m. All are welcome.

Fire District #3

May 12 - Grays Harbor Fire District #3 commissioners’ monthly meetings are held at Old Westport City Hall at 506. N. Montesano St. in uptown Westport. Use the door next to the former Police Department entrance.

Tokeland/North Cove Chamber

May 12 – The Tokeland/North Cove Chamber of Commerce board will meet this month at Bayshore RV Park in Tokeland at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited. Refreshments will be served.

All individuals interested in the community, whether you are a business owner or not, are welcome to come and express your ideas and share your community needs.

The organization meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

Experimental Aircraft

May 13 - Grays Harbor Chapter 367 of the Experimental Aircraft Assn. will meet at the Simpson Ave. Grill in Hoquiam next to Swanson’s. Dinner at 6 p.m. Meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Pilots’ Lounge at Bowerman Field. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month.

South Beach Fire & EMS Board

May 14 - The South Beach Fire and EMS Board meets in Westport City Council chambers on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend.

Preschool Story Time

May 15 - 11:30 a.m.-noon, for children ages 3 to 6. Join in a program of stories, rhymes, songs and movement games. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join in.

Readers Group

May 15 - 10-11 a.m., for adults. Read or listen to “The Spectator Bird” by Wallace Stegner and join your friends and neighbors in a lively discussion.

HAVA Garage Sale

May 15, 16, 17 - HAVA’s 4th Annual Blow-out Garage Sale will be held at the Menlo County Fair Grounds Commercial Building. If you have large and/or small items you don’t have room for, give HAVA a call and a volunteer will gladly pick them up. No computers, TVs, or tires, please.

Library closed for training

May 20 – The Westport Timberland Library will be closed for staff training. The library will resume regular hours on Thursday, May 21.

Grayland Children’s Hospital Guild

May 21 - The Grayland Children’s Hospital Guild will meet at 11 a.m. at South Beach Presbyterian Church on SR105, a quarter-mile south of the Grayland ‘T’. New members always welcome. Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month with the exception of July, August and December.

Blessing of the Fleet

May 24 - Join the South Beach Ministerial Association in a moving ceremony at the Fishermen’s Monument on Neddie Rose Drive in Westport for the Annual Blessing of the Fleet. More info: 1-800-345-6223 or 360- 268-9422

VFW Memorial Day Service

May 25 - Join local military organizations and military fraternities as they honor those lost in battle at a brief, but moving ceremony held at Veterans Memorial Park at the Street of Flags - 1800 S. Montesano St., just south of the Westport City limits. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. More info: 360- 268-9543

Library closed

May 25 - All Timberland libraries will be closed Monday, May 25, for the Memorial Day holiday. Libraries will resume regular schedules Tuesday, May 26.

American Legion

May 26 - Westport American Legion Post #140 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet in the VFW Youth Center for a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. meeting. The Youth Center is located behind the VFW Post Home at 211 E. Pacific Ave. in Westport.

Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of each month February through November.

GH League of Women Voters

May 27 - The Grays Harbor League of Women Voters will meet at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 723 Eklund Avenue, in Hoquiam.

The League meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Ocosta Booster Club

June 1 - The Ocosta Booster Club monthly meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Ocosta High School library. All South Beach citizens interested in our schools are invited to attend.

The booster club provides financial support for athletic and academic programs, sports banquets, individual camps, state competitions, sports equipment and scholarships for students at Ocosta Jr/Sr High.

The club meets the first Monday of each month.

VFW Men’s Auxiliary

June 1 - Westport South Beach VFW Post #3057 Men’s Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. in the VFW Post Home in Westport.

All Men’s Auxiliary members are encouraged to attend.

The group meets the first Monday of each month.

GH Corvette meeting

June 2 - The next Grays Harbor Corvette Club meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. upstairs in the Aberdeen Top Foods meeting area.

All Corvette owners are welcome and encouraged to attend. The club meets the first Tuesday of each month.

SBCO Board meeting

June 2 - The monthly South Beach Christian Outreach (SBCO) board meeting is held at 3:30 p.m. at Living Hope Church, located at 617 S. Forrest St. in uptown Westport.

Anyone interested in learning more about how SBCO helps neighbors in need in our community or volunteering to help is welcome to attend. The organization is currently looking for two new board members. The board meets the first Tuesday of each month. Elections are in June.

Outreach Spaghetti Dinner

June 2 - South Beach Christian Outreach (SBCO) will offer a fundraising spaghetti dinner at Living Hope Church, located at 617 S. Forrest St. in uptown Westport.

The menu includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad and bread. Dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

A $5 donation is requested to help defray the cost of your meal and to help neighbors in need on the South Beach.

These spaghetti fundraisers are offered the first Tuesday of each month.

Parks & Rec meeting

June 2 - South Beach Parks & Recreation District commission members meet at 6 p.m. at the Grayland Community Hall. The District owns and manages the Grayland Community Hall and its surrounding grounds.

All community members residing within the boundaries of the Ocosta School District are automatically members of the Parks & Recreation District. Public attendance at meetings, participation and suggestions are encouraged and welcomed.

The commissioners meet the first Tuesday of each month.

Lodging Tax Committee meeting

June 3 - The regularly scheduled meeting of the City of Westport Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Westport City Council Chambers at 506 N. Montesano St.

The committee studies options and considers submitted proposals for using the 5% excise taxes collected in the city each year that are earmarked for tourism promotion, and then makes recommendations to the City Council for specific expenditures approval.

The meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.

Grayland Neighborhood Watch

June 4 - Members of Grayland Neighborhood Watch and all other interested South Beach citizens will meet at 7 p.m. at the Grayland Fire Hall this month. New GH County Sheriff’s Office resident deputies will be introduced. All South Beach citizens are invited to attend.

The group meets the first Thursday of each month.

Grays Harbor Dems

June 4 - The Grays Harbor Democratic Party Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the Polish Club, 823 West First Street, Aberdeen. The group meets the first Thursday of each month except on holidays.

Best Friends Day

June 6 - “Best Friends Day” activities start in Westport’s Marina District at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 6. A celebration of dogs, the day’s activities will include a dog jog, a beach romp, a Facebook photo contest, a pet parade, games and prizes. Pet products vendors will also be on site.

PSA Ocean Anglers

June 6 - PSA Ocean Anglers will hold their monthly meeting Saturday at 6 p.m. at McCausland Hall in Westport’s Marina District. Guest speaker Greg Mueller of the WTA will speak on pressure bleeding salmon and lure and color choices for early Chinook. All are welcome. More info: 425- 328-8558

Pacific County Dems meet

June 8 - Pacific County Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. at the Pacific County Courthouse Annex, 1216 W. Robert Bush Drive in South Bend.

The group meets in South Bend on the second Monday of February, April, June, October and December, with its annual picnic in July.

Library Comic Strip Contest

Jun 10 - Aug 31 - Comic Strip Contest for teens. Enter your 5-panel comic strip, online June 10-Aug. 31. Winning entries will be featured on Teen Facebook, Tumblr, the TRL website and published as a bookmark. Must be entering grades 6-12 to enter. This event is part of Summer Reading, a Timberland Regional Library district-wide program.

Library Minecraft Contest

Jun 10 - Aug 31, for grades 3-12. Build & enter a Minecraft scene from your favorite book. Winners will be posted on Teen Facebook, Tumblr and the TRL website. Minecraft patterns ok to use. Contest Guidelines: www.trl.org/minecraft

Library Readers Group
