Despite losing its state quarterfinal to LaConner, 2-1 in double overtime, the Ocosta Wildcats ended their season with the best record in school history, finishing 13-4-2.

The season included a record six game winning streak, an eighth appearance in a district championship game, and the first time ever Wildcats received league Player of the Year awards on offense and defense.

Players of the Year

The OHS soccer program had never won a Player of the Year award until this season. To make the win even more significant, the honor was doubled with players receiving both Offensive and Defensive awards.

Mary Davis was voted the league’s Offensive Player of the Year. She had 36 goals, eight assists, and nine game-winning goals.

Emily Bjornsgard was voted Defensive Player of the Year. She had 133 saves while only allowing 23 goals.

All-League

Three players received first team recognition. Davis and Bjornsgard, as well as freshman midfielder, Teal Mitby. Mitby set a school freshman record with nine assists, giving her 19 over the past two seasons.

Two other underclassmen received second team all-league. Piper Furford, freshman sweeper, was selected for her skills at sweeper on defense and Adriana Huerta was recognized for her physical defensive skills at center midfield.

Three Wildcats were honorable mention: senior Hanna Wingate at midfield, freshman Mercedes Denny on defense, and freshman Kendal Wilson at forward.

Wingate and Bjornsgard were all-academic and Mary Davis was named Player of the Year by MaxPreps.
