The Washington Trollers Association (WTA) is an association of more than 100 commercial fishing family businesses that use the hook and line method of harvesting prime salmon off of the Washington coast.

Much of this commercially harvested salmon provides some of the freshest salmon available to the seafood markets throughout the Northwest.

The Trollers Association will hold its annual membership meeting and Budget Board meeting Saturday, Jan. 23, in Westport’s Marina District at McCausland Hall next to the Westport Maritime Museum on Westhaven Drive.

Meeting schedule

The Budget Board meeting will start at 9 a.m. with the annual meeting start at 12:30 p.m. A working lunch will be provided by WEfish.

Several guest speakers

The annual meeting will have several guest speakers, including Phil Anderson who will discuss the upcoming negotiations concerning the Pacific Salmon Treaty and upcoming negotiations with Canada on the Chinook annex.

Doug Milward, the ocean manager for Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), will discuss the results of the 2015 season and prospects for 2016 salmon harvest quotas.

Troy Rentz, USCG Safety Compliance Officer, will update attendees on the latest U.S. Coast Guard safety requirements.

Jim Olson, Washington troll advisor to the Pacific Fisheries Management Council, will discuss strategies for how the 2016 season will be managed.

WDFW Enforcement Officer Dan Chadwick will explain current updates on rules and regulations.
