Surfer rescued after found unconscious in water off groins

South Beach Fire & EMS and local law enforcement were dispatched at 12:29 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.27, to the Pt. Chehalis revetment in the 400 Block of E. Neddie Rose Drive for a possible drowning.

Upon arrival, crews found an unresponsive 36-year-old female on the groins. Bystanders reported that the subject was seen face down in the water near a groin and was pulled up onto the rocks by her husband and brother, who were also surfing in the area.

They administered CPR prior to Emergency Medical Services arrival and the subject was breathing with difficulty but still unconscious when aid arrived. She was transported at 1 p.m. by ambulance to Grays Harbor Community Hospital in critical condition.

Cause of the accident had not been determined at the time of her rescue.

Due to privacy laws, no further information was available as to her status.
