Westport Winery Garden Resort founders, Blain and Kim Roberts, have added two partners to their business. On March 13, the couple gifted their adult children, Carrie and Dana, 40% ownership of the venture they started in 2008.
“We built this business with the idea that it would give us the opportunity to work alongside Carrie and Dana to teach them the love of the land, the community, and of enterprise. It’s incredibly satisfying to see them take this new role,” said Blain Roberts.
Carrie, who began as the winery’s tasting room manager, became the chief financial officer of the resort in 2014. She holds a degree from Eastern Washington University. Prior to working at the family winery she was the education coordinator at Grays Harbor Historical Seaport. After college she also spent a year working for Lahaina Divers on Maui, the company Blain founded in 1978.
Dana, who began as the winery’s sole winemaker, is now the director of winemaking, with a team working for him. He is also a graduate of Eastern Washington University. He followed his degree with an enology and viticulture certification from Washington State University.
Blain and Kim will remain involved in the day-to-day operation of the business while working on the company’s plan to become the Butchart Gardens of Washington State.
“We see this as part of the legacy we are leaving our kids and our community,” said Kim Roberts.
Westport Winery Garden Resort is located on the corner of State Route 105 and South Arbor Road halfway between Aberdeen and Westport. The winery - including the restaurant, bakery, nursery and gardens - is open daily and offers lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
