Mayor’s spot and Gardner’s City Council seat will be on Primary ballot

The August Primary Election Candidates Filing Week closed on Friday, May 15.

On the South Beach, positions up for election include Westport mayor, two city council seats, three on the Ocosta School District Board of Directors, as well as commissioner seats in two fire districts, the South Beach Parks & Recreation District and the Grayland Water District.

On Primary ballot

Races that include three or more candidates will appear on the Aug. 4 Primary Election ballot. The top two vote getters in those races will advance to the General Election, regardless of political party affiliation.

Since the mayor’s slot and Pat Gardner’s Position 5 seat have three contenders each, those positions will be on the Primary Election ballot. Westport Mayor Michael Bruce is being challenged by City Council member Rob Bearden and Jim Lang. Pat Gardner, who is completing her second four-year term in Position 5, is being challenged by Gerald “Jerry” Schlaupitz and Brandi Holmes.

Port commissioner

Also on the Primary Election ballot, South Beach residents will vote on the Port of Grays Harbor Commissioner Seat 3 position currently held by Stan Pinnick. Jackie Farra and Richard Sinclair are challenging him.
