Willapa Harbor Gun Club

Sept. 4 - The Willapa Harbor Gun Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Gun Club Range located at 37 Butte Creek Rd. by the Bonneville Substation.

Trap shooting is the first and third Thursday at 6 p.m.

Earthquakes and tsunamis

Sept. 6 - 1-2:30 p.m., for adults. Westport Timberland Library presents Earthquakes and Tsunamis. Knowing what to do when earthquakes and tsunamis strike can help you be more resilient. Join local naturalist Julie Tennis for a discussion about these natural disasters and how you can prepare yourself, your home and your community.

Ocosta Booster Club

Sept. 8 – The Ocosta Booster Club will meet at 6 p.m. in the Ocosta High School library. All South Beach citizens interested in our schools are invited to attend.

The booster club provides financial support for athletic and academic programs, sports banquets, individual camps, state competitions, sports equipment and scholarships for students at Ocosta Jr/Sr High.

The club normally meets the first Monday of every month. Due to the Labor Day holiday, the group will meet a week later this month.

Fire District #3 commissioners

Sept. 9 - Grays Harbor Fire District #3 commissioners’ monthly meetings are held at Old Westport City Hall, located at 506. N. Montesano St. in uptown Westport. Use the door next to the former Police Department entrance.

Tokeland/North Cove Chamber

Sept. 9 - Tokeland/North Cove Chamber of Commerce meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at the North Willapa Grange Hall at 9 a.m. Refreshments will be served.

All individuals interested in the community, whether you are a business owner or not, are welcome to come and express your ideas and share your community needs.

The grange hall is located at the corner of SR105 and Jacobson Rd. the organization meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

Freedom Walk

Sept. 11 - All South Beach community members and visitors are invited to join the annual South Beach Freedom Walk. Meet at 11 a.m. at the Port Observation Tower in Westport’s Marina District and walk to VFW Post #3057. More info: 268-1239

South Beach Fire & EMS Board

Sept. 11 - The South Beach Fire and EMS Board meets in Westport City Council chambers on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend.

Coalition for Infrastructure

Sept. 11 - A general meeting of the Grays Harbor Coalition for Infrastructure will include discussions about Grays Harbor County’s primary election results and other issues brought up by attendees. The meeting will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Furford Gathering Center near Baskin Robbins at 104 S. Chehalis St., in Aberdeen.

Brady’s Oyster Feed

Sept. 13 - Traditionally held the second Saturday in September. Oysters any way you like ‘em: Held at Brady’s Oysters just west of the Elk River Bridge on SR105. Proceeds go to clean water promotion and OHS scholarships. More info: 360- 268-0077 or 800- 572-3252

Monthly Writers Group

Sept. 13 - The South Beach Writers Group will meet this Saturday from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. in the Westport library meeting room for writers high school age and older.

Bring an excerpt to read: Poem, short story, blog or book chapter. The group’s goal is to inspire and encourage fellow writers. New members are always welcome.

The group meets the second Saturday of each month.

Westport Marina Salmon Derby

Chorale rehearsals begin

Sept. 15 - Willapa Harbor Chorale begins rehearsals for its annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, in the Raymond High School band room. Regular two-hour rehearsals will start at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome as long as you bring your voice.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

Sept. 16 - A free support group for unpaid care partners, family members and friends of individuals with memory loss meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 1– 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen at 420 N. Broadway St.

Library closed

Sept. 17 - All Timberland Libraries will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 17, for All Staff Training Day. Libraries will resume regular schedules Thursday, Sept. 18.

Grayland Children’s Hospital Guild

Sept. 18 - The Grayland Children’s Hospital Guild will meet at 11 a.m. at South Beach Presbyterian Church on SR105, a quarter-mile south of the Grayland ‘T’. New members are always welcome. Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month with the exception of June, July and August.

Author at Shoalwater Bay Tribal Library

Sept. 18 - Olympia author Heather Lockman will read from and discuss her Northwest novel, “The Indian Shirt Story” (Musa Publishing, 2013), at the Shoalwater Bay Tribal Community Library in Tokeland on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 4:30 p.m.

Lockman describes the book as a tale of “celebrity, integrity, salmon and beer” set in a fictional, but very familiar, western Washington town.

The Indian Shirt Story is available in paperback from Amazon and in e-book format from nearly all e-book outlets. It is also available for checkout from Timberland Regional Library.

Readers Group

Sept. 19 - 11 a.m.-noon for adults. Join in a lively discussion of “West of Here” by Jonathan Evison at the Westport library.

Operation Shore Patrol

Sept. 20, 21 - 42nd Annual Beach Cleanup. Traditionally held the third weekend in September. Four-wheelers converge on our beaches to tidy up after the summer season.
