With the first round of ballots counted on Election Day, last Tuesday, Aug. 4, first-term Westport City Councilman, Rob Bearden, racked up a whopping 65.18% of the 247 votes cast in the City of Westport Mayoral race.
Incumbent Michael Bruce, who is running for an unprecedented fourth term, came in a distant second, garnering 73 votes for a 29.55% share of ballots counted thus far. Challenger Jim Lang pulled in just 13 votes for 5.26% of the total.
Bearden and Bruce will face off again in the Nov. 3 General Election.
City Council seat
Two-term incumbent City Council member, Pat Gardner, currently holds a slim lead against challenger Brandi Holmes. Gardner earned 91 votes for a 41.18% share of the total 221 votes counted thus far, with Holmes just five votes behind her for a 38.91% share.
Third candidate, Jerry Schlaupitz, received a 19.91% share of the total, with 44 votes cast in his favor. Barring a major upset in following counts, Gardner and Holmes will vie for the Position 5 City Council seat in the General Election.
