A new unique gift and home décor shop recently opened in North Cove. Tucked among old growth evergreen trees just a half-block off SR105, Low Tide Bits and Pieces is owned and operated by artists Bill and La Verne Amundson. The shop is housed in a warm and inviting historically significant cabin that was originally a part of the Coast Guard Housing complex in Tokeland. The former owner of the Amundson’s property, Bill Ramsden, purchased the building when the station shut down, moved it to its current location in three sections and then reassembled it.

Shop filled with original art

Low Tide Bits and Pieces features original artwork, up-graded furniture, home décor, holiday decorations and personal accessories.

La Verne hand-paints stemware, dishes, oyster half-shell jewelry holders, vintage tables, jewelry boxes, votives, candleholders, luxury soaps and refrigerator magnets, just to name a few.

In addition, she creates Oyster Shell Santa Christmas tree decorations, each one with a unique personality and all with a definite holiday sparkle in his eyes.

An accomplished artist that uses the one-stroke method, she has produced literally thousands of pieces of hand-painted glassware, and for many years, her items were sold in Hallmark stores in Kent, Covington and Northgate.

Bill offers oil paintings of beach scenes with an emphasis on sunsets, as well as handcrafted woodwork, including multi-level cedar decor display stands and occasional and accent tables.

The couple’s two daughters also contribute handcrafted items for sale at Low Tide Bits and Pieces, including felt wreaths, origami art, earrings, infinity scarves and more.

All items at Low Tide Bits and Pieces are very reasonably priced and there’s wonderful one-of-a-kind art here from classic to whimsical that will fit everyone’s holiday budget and style.

Family matters

More than 30-year residents of Kent, the Amundsons moved to North Cove nine years ago. Bill retired in 2002 after a 30-year career as the Director of Quality control and Environmental Services for a steel wire manufacturing company in Kent.

La Verne retired in 2006 as the Kent School District Field Manager for Food Services, covering five high schools and six junior highs. Following their move to North Cove, she worked for an additional two and a half years as head of food services for the Cosmopolis School District.

Daughter Liz Stevenson lives in Bothell and second daughter, Melissa Henry, resides in Kent.

Low Tide Bits and Pieces is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The shop is located at 3291 SR105, directly across the highway from Gould Road, approximately a quarter mile south of the North Willapa Grange Hall.
