In addition to offering home décor, a full-service flower shop, a wine shop, wine tastings and gifts, Laura Rust, owner/operator of Bay West Emporium in Westport’s Marina District, recently opened a café that daily serves light breakfasts and soups, salads, pastas and sandwiches for lunch, as well as adding a bakery with a wide variety of dessert offerings.
Rusts’ head cook and baker, Tanya Lana, works with her to develop menu items — some offered regularly with additional specials that change each day.
Diners may sit in the front area with picture window views of street-side activity or in the wine tasting room - a more secluded setting.
Breakfast is served
Ready for breakfast prepared the way you want it when you want it? You’ve got it – all day long. Try an omelet and choose what you’d like inside. Eggs come fried or scrambled with a toasted English muffin and fried veggies. How about French toast and bacon or a breakfast quiche? Or… Check out the daily specials.
Lunch until closing
Soups, sandwiches, salads and quiches are the cornerstones of lunch offerings at Bay West Emporium. Try the Soup of the Day with an egg salad, local tuna, BLT, grilled cheese, meat loaf, peanut butter and banana or the day’s special sandwich.
Looking for something more than soup and a sandwich? Bay West Emporium also offers potpies, Cornish meat pies, pasta dishes and Asian stir-fry.
Delectable desserts
When Lana isn’t busy preparing delicious meals for café customers, she concentrates on baking delectable desserts for onsite enjoyment or take-out.
Choose from a variety of pies and cupcakes, cowboy cookies, almond lavender tarts, macaroons, fruit breads, cheesecakes, blueberry sour cream coffee cake, apple strudel and seasonal dessert breads. You can even enjoy caramel cinnamon rolls on weekends. Custom bakery orders are also welcome.
Thirsty?
Enjoy freshly squeezed orange juice, herbal teas, Raven’s Brew coffee, sodas, root beer floats, 18 kinds of espresso, bottled water, hot or iced tea, or hot chocolate with your meal or dessert. Beer and wine are available for take-out sale, with permitting expected soon for on-site consumption, as well.
Bay West Emporium is located at 300 E. Dock St. In addition to on-street parking, there is a parking lot and handicap accessible entry door behind the building that can be accessed off N. Nyhus Ave.
The shop and café are open Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
