Grayland business owner, Larry Carl Everson, 73, died at his home in Westport on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 from heart disease. He and his wife Sandy have owned and operated the Local Bar & Grill in Grayland since the summer of 2004.
The son of Oscar Everson and Lynn Burke, Larry was born Jan. 29, 1941 in Everett, Wash. He was raised in Oregon and Aberdeen, Wash., graduating from Weatherwax High School in 1959. During his high school days, he worked in the woods, on boats out of Westport and dug clams commercially.
Following graduation, Larry moved to the Puget Sound area. He joined the U.S. Army in 1963, became an Army Ranger, and served with the 10th Special Forces in Vietnam until his discharge in 1966.
He went to work for the Boeing Company in Seattle in 1966.
Larry married Sandy Morrison June 24, 1967 in Seattle. The couple made their home in West Seattle for several years before moving to Enumclaw.
Active in his community, Larry was a Past Master of the Enumclaw Masonic Lodge, enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family.
He retired from Boeing’s Commercial Division in 1992.
The Eversons built a home in Westport in 1999, spending time both there and in Enumclaw until moving to Westport full time in 2004, following Sandy’s retirement as a bookkeeper for a Seattle law office.
In addition to his wife Sandy at the family home, Larry is survived by daughter Candi (Ross) McClain of Filer, Idaho; son Joe of Grayland; and grandchildren Tyler and Alex McClain of Filer, Idaho.
A Celebration of Life for Larry is planned for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Westport South Beach VFW Post #3057, located at 211 E. Pacific Ave.
Friends are invited to join the family for a potluck lunch, during which we can share our favorite Larry stories and memories.
