Captain Lance Deville (AKA Richard Allen Barker), 64, passed away suddenly on the morning of Wednesday, November 26, 2014, in Vancouver, Washington.
Lance was born November 10, 1950, in Portland, Oregon, to Eloise Johnson Barker (Southard) and Berkley Barker, the youngest of three children, and was a lifelong Portland-area resident. He worked for Albertson’s grocery for more than 35 years, most recently at the Milwaukie, Oregon store.
He was a graduate of Rose City Park School and attended James Madison High School in Portland. He was an active member of the service group, South Beach Buccaneers, and a professional pirate re-enactor.
He married Shark Bait (AKA Jill DuBois) aboard the tall ship Lady Washington, June 21, 2014 during Rusty Scupper’s Pirate Days. He loved all things pirate and had recently acquired a pet parrot.
He is survived by his wife, Jill DuBois of Vancouver, Washington; his brother Berkley Barker and his family of Westport, Washington; daughter Ashlee Murr and granddaughter Alice Murr of Milwaukie, Oregon; son Blake Barker of Portland, Oregon and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Beverly Barker Ebert and survived by her husband, James Ebert of Oregon City, Oregon and nephew, Russ Ebert of Kuwana, Japan, who was best man at Lance’s recent wedding.
Memorial services are planned during Rusty Scupper’s Pirate Days in June, 2015.
