Traveling southbound on SR105 approaching the Jacobson’s Jetty area Monday evening, July 6, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Wenatchee resident Craig A. Currie, 57, passed multiple vehicles in his 2002 Toyota Camry 4-door. When he returned to the southbound lane, he struck the rear of a 2008 Scion 2-door hatchback driven by Westport resident Sabrina Gonier, 33.
According to a State Patrol accident memo, both vehicles then struck the guardrail on the right side of the roadway, with Gonier’s car coming to rest blocking the highway near Milepost 20.
Currie’s car crossed both lanes and came to a rest on the hillside. After he exited his vehicle, it and the hillside both became fully engulfed in flames.
Both Gonier and a passenger in her vehicle, Aberdeen resident Karen M. Silvera, 47, were injured in the collision. They were treated and transported by South Beach EMS to Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. Due to privacy laws, no information is available as to their injuries or conditions.
Currie was charged with Reckless Driving and Driving Under the Influence.
Due to the totaled condition of both vehicles, at the time of the initial accident investigation, the State Patrol had not yet determined whether or not any of the three involved were wearing their seatbelts.
