Capping their no-loss regular season with all wins at the Washington State District 3 Little League Tournament of Champions, the South Beach Little League 11-12 team walked off the field with the first place trophy on Friday, June 28. The tournament was staged on the field at Elma’s Smith-Murray Park June 22-28.

Strong finishes in each of their games marked their journey to the big hardware. On opening day, the team defeated Chehalis 15-4, followed by a closer game against Elma on June 23 that resulted in a final score of 4-2.

After a two-day layoff, the South Beach nine returned to the field on June 26 to crush Larch Mountain by a score of 11-1.

In the finals on Friday, the team again faced Larch Mountain, this time closing the door with a 9-5 final score.

Steve Quinby, Kevin Hatton and Carl Waara coached the team this year.

Both South Beach major league teams played 12 regular season games against each other, as well as against three teams from Willapa Harbor.
