‘Thinking of my actions every day’

My name is Barry Petersen. In October of 2007, we moved here to North Cove and found it to be a great place. We were welcomed with open arms and immediately became a part of the community here and in Westport, as well.

In June of 2008, my best pal and girl of twenty-five years passed away, and again, this community stepped up and helped me through the rough times.

I have tried over these years here to repay all the friends and people by trying to pay back the kindness with volunteer work and by being the best neighbor I could be.

On Sept. 28, I ruined all the good I felt I was doing. I drank and then drove my car, which resulted in a single vehicle accident. I am so very sorry for ruining the trust the community had put in me.

While I did not hurt anyone, I surely could have and this is a weight I am living with and, again, I am truly sorry.

I also want to both thank and apologize to the State Troopers and Fire personnel that responded. I know that my actions took valuable time from them that could have been used to help someone that could have been in real need at that time.

I do know I could have hurt and or killed someone with my careless actions, and there is no excuse. I felt I needed to let all of you know what I did and that I am thinking of my actions every day.
