Library Readers Group

Nov. 21 – 11 a.m.-noon, for adults. Read or listen to “Orphan Train” by Christina Baker Kline and join your friends and neighbors in a lively discussion.

Family Story Time

Nov. 21- 11:30 a.m.-noon, for children age 6 and younger and their families; all ages are welcome. Join in a program of stories, rhymes, songs and movement games.

American Legion

Nov. 25 - Westport American Legion Post #140 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet in the VFW Youth Center for a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. meeting. The Youth Center is located behind the VFW Post Home at 211 E. Pacific Ave. in Westport.

Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of each month February through November.

Library closed

Nov. 27-28 - All Timberland libraries will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27 and 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday. All libraries will resume regular schedules Saturday, Nov. 29. More info: 1-800- 562-6022.

Benefit event for Cindy Miller

Nov. 29 - A fundraiser to help longtime Westport resident, Cindy Miller, with financial costs related to her battle with cancer, will be hosted by the Pine Tree Lounge Saturday, Nov. 29, all afternoon and evening. BBQ pulled pork with baked beans and Cole slaw will be available for a $12 per serving donation.

Half of your $30 Texas Hold ‘em game buy-in will to the winner and the other half to Cindy’s benefit fund.

A live and a silent auction starts at 6:30 p.m. Donate to the auctions if you can. PM the Pine Tree on Facebook if you want to donate a new items or services.

Ocosta Booster Club

Dec. 1 – The Ocosta Booster Club will meet at 6 p.m. in the Ocosta High School library. All South Beach citizens interested in our schools are invited to attend.

The booster club provides financial support for athletic and academic programs, sports banquets, individual camps, state competitions, sports equipment and scholarships for students at Ocosta Jr/Sr High.

The club normally meets the first Monday of every month.

Parks & Rec meeting

Dec. 2 - South Beach Parks & Recreation District commission members will hold it regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at the Grayland Community Hall. The District owns and manages the Grayland Community Hall and its surrounding grounds.

All community members residing within the boundaries of the Ocosta School District are automatically members of the Parks & Recreation District.

Public attendance at meetings, participation and suggestions are encouraged and welcomed.

The commission meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

K-9 Ciko at Neighborhood Watch

Dec. 2 - The North Pacific County Watch group (Tokeland/North Cove area) will meet Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. at the Shoalwater Bay Tribal Center meeting room in Tokeland.

Special guests will be Pacific County Sheriff’s Office K9 Officer Ciko (Seek-o) and his partner/handler Deputy Justin Kangas

Lodging Tax Committee meeting

Dec. 3 - The regularly scheduled meeting of the City of Westport Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Westport City Council Chambers at 506 N. Montesano St.

The committee studies options and considers submitted proposals for using the 5% excise taxes collected in the city each year that are earmarked for tourism promotion, and then makes recommendations to the City Council for specific expenditures approval.

The meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.

SBAA Holiday Market

Dec. 5 - The South Beach Arts Association will host its 3rd annual Holiday Market Dec. 5-14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the South Beach Community Arts Center with an opening reception on Dec. 5 from 4 – 8 pm. The Market will be open for evening shopping on Wednesday, Dec 10, until 8 pm.

The Market features one of a kind art, painting, glass, pottery, jewelry and much more, all from local artists. The Arts Center is located at 188 Ocean Ave. in uptown Westport.

Santa by the Sea

Dec. 6 - Join the South Beach Buccaneers as they welcome Santa Claus to Float 6 at the Westport Marina at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6.

Santa will then travel to the Destruction Island Lighthouse Lens Exhibit Hall on the Westport Maritime Museum grounds.

Come visit Santa and tell him your holiday wishes, take family photos and then go next door to enjoy the pirates’ Christmas party with games and refreshments and shop in the Kids’ Store. All gifts are just $1 and they will be wrapped for you.

Made in Tokeland art show and sale

Dec. 6 - Knock on Wood, Merrill Photography, Judith Altruda Jewelry, Mark Murphy, Paul Havas, Earl Davis and other featured artists working in a variety of mediums will offer an art show and sale at the Tokeland Hotel Saturday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Live music at 5 p.m.

The Tokeland Hotel is offering a special room rate for Saturday night to those who mention the event, Made in Tokeland. Call 360- 267-7006 for reservations.

The event will also include live music with the acoustic trio ALL IN starting at 5 p.m.

Pacific County Dems meet

Dec. 8 - Pacific County Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. at the Pacific County Courthouse Annex, 1216 W. Robert Bush Drive in South Bend.

The group meets in South Bend on the second Monday of each month, with the exception of July, August, September and November.

Tokeland/North Cove Chamber

Dec. 9 – The Tokeland/North Cove Chamber of Commerce board meets at the North Willapa Grange at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited. Refreshments will be served.

All individuals interested in the community, whether you are a business owner or not, are welcome to come and express your ideas and share your community needs.

The grange hall is located at the corner of SR105 and Jacobson Rd. The organization meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

Fire District #3 commissioners

Dec. 9 - Grays Harbor Fire District #3 commissioners’ monthly meetings are held at Old Westport City Hall, located at 506. N. Montesano St. in uptown Westport. Use the door next to the former Police Department entrance.

Experimental Aircraft Assn.

Dec. 10 - Grays Harbor Chapter 367 of the Experimental Aircraft Assn. will hold its monthly meeting at the Simpson Ave. Grill located in Hoquiam next to Swanson’s. Dinner is at 6 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. in the Pilots’ Lounge at Bowerman Field. The meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month.

South Beach Fire & EMS Board

Dec. 11 - The South Beach Fire and EMS Board meets in Westport City Council chambers on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend.

Monthly Writers Group

Dec. 13 - The South Beach Writers Group will meet this Saturday from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. in the Westport library meeting room for writers high school age and older.

Bring an excerpt to read: Poem, short story, blog or book chapter. The group’s goal is to inspire and encourage fellow writers. New members are always welcome.

The group meets the second Saturday of each month.

Genealogy meeting

Dec. 13 - The Grays Harbor Genealogy meeting will be held at the Hoquiam Timberland Library at 612 K St. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Visitors welcome.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

Dec. 16 - A free support group for unpaid care partners, family members and friends of individuals with memory loss meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 1– 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen at 420 N. Broadway St.

Grayland Children’s Hospital Guild

Dec. 18 - The Grayland Children’s Hospital Guild will meet at 11 a.m. at South Beach Presbyterian Church on SR105, a quarter-mile south of the Grayland ‘T’. New members are always welcome. Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month with the exception of June, July and August.

Dec. 19 - 11 a.m.-noon, for adults. Read or listen to “The Red Garden” by Alice Hoffman and join your friends and neighbors in a lively discussion.

Library closed

Dec. 24-25. All Timberland Libraries will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25 for the Christmas holidays. Libraries will resume regular schedules Friday, Dec. 26.

Library closing early

Dec. 31. All Timberland Libraries will be closed by 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31. Libraries normally open past 6 p.m. will close early. Other libraries will close at their regular time.
