Tribal author reads from newest book
Aug. 1st – Shoalwater Bay tribal member Fred Cooper (will be at the Shoalwater Bay Tribal Community Library to read from his newest book “Destruction Island” at 1p.m. This is a free program and all South Beach community members and visitors are cordially invited to attend. The library is located on Old Tokeland Road next door to the Tribal Center, a quarter mile south of Georgetown Station, which is located on the corner of SR105 and Old Tokeland Road.
Ocosta Booster Club
Aug. 4 – The Ocosta Booster Club will meet at 6 p.m. in the Ocosta High School library. All South Beach citizens interested in our schools are invited to attend.
The booster club provides financial support for athletic and academic programs, sports banquets, individual camps, state competitions, sports equipment and scholarships for students at Ocosta Jr/Sr High.
The club meets the first Monday of every month.
GH Corvette meeting
Aug. 5 - The next Grays Harbor Corvette Club meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. upstairs in the Aberdeen Top Foods meeting area.
All Corvette owners are welcome and encouraged to attend. Come and check us out as we prepare for this summer’s Corvette runs, Corvette shows, and the club’s annual big, local show, ‘Vettes at the Marina’ in Westport set for Aug. 16 this year in conjunction with the annual Westport Art Festival.
The club meets the first Tuesday of each month.

National Night Out at Grayland Fire Department
Aug. 5 - Mark your calendars. Grayland Fire Department is supporting and hosting the Block Watch Program during National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 6-8 p.m.
There will be information available from various agencies on strengthening communities, as well as free hot dogs and pop. All community members are welcome to attend.
Willapa Harbor Gun Club
Aug. 7 - The Willapa Harbor Gun Club meets the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Gun Club Range located at 37 Butte Creek Rd. by the Bonneville Substation.
Trap shooting is the first and third Thursday at 6 p.m.

Monthly Writers Group
Aug. 9 - The South Beach Writers Group will meet this Saturday from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. in the Westport library meeting room for writers high school age and older.
Bring an excerpt to read: Poem, short story, blog or book chapter. The group’s goal is to inspire and encourage fellow writers. New members are always welcome.
The group meets the second Saturday of each month.

Keepin’ it Coastal Brewfest
Aug. 9 - James H. Doolittle VFW Post #3057 and the Westport Brewing Company will host the inaugural “Keepin it Coastal” Brewfest on the VFW grounds, located at 211 E. Pacific Ave. in uptown Westport. This is an over-21 function that runs from 1 to 8 p.m.
Come for craft beer, local live music, vendors, a dessert auction and a Best Dressed Dog contest. Advance tickets are $25 at Westport Brewing Company and $30 at the door.
OHS Class of ’94 reunion
Aug. 9 - Members of the Ocosta Class of 1994 will celebrate their 20-year reunion by getting together on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Chateau Westport. The cost for dinner is $25 per person. Rooms are available at a discounted rate.

GH Audubon picnic
Aug. 10 - The Grays Harbor Audubon Society annual picnic will be held Sunday, Aug.10, from Noon - 3 p.m. at Janet Strong’s house in McCleary. For driving directions, call 360- 612-0437.
The Society will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers and drinks. Attendees are requested to bring side dishes, desserts or whatever you want.

Garden Party at Shoalwater library
Aug. 16 - Corinne Boyer, an herbalist from Shelton, will give a presentation on “Plants and Lore of the Fairy Folk” at the Shoalwater Bay Tribal Community Library from 10 a.m. to noon. It’s a “Garden Party” with free food from the Fairy Gardens for everyone. Please wear your best Fairy costume or the library will provide some.

Aug. 20 - Local author Eileen Pinkerton will be at Shoalwater Bay Tribal Community Library at 1 p.m. to read and sign copies of her book: “Utopia, Oregon or How I Wrote a Novel in a Month.”
Firemen’s Muster Community Play Day
Aug. 23 - As a part of the City of Westport’s Centennial Celebration this year, GH Fire District #3 in rural Westport will host a free Firemen’s Muster Community Play Day will be held at Harms Field from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23. Come for a day filled with games and activities for children and adults that will include softball, waterball, ladder climb, hose lay, bucket brigade, tug of war and more.
The South Beach Buccaneers will be on hand to entertain kids. Bring a picnic lunch and a blanket and join the fun. Cheeseburgers with grilled onions also will be for sale.
All community members and their families are invited to attend.
American Legion
Aug. 26 - Westport American Legion Post #140 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet in the VFW Youth Center for a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. meeting. The Youth Center is located behind the VFW Post Home at 211 E. Pacific Ave. in Westport.
Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of each month February through November.

Lodging Tax Committee meeting
Sept. 3 - The next regularly scheduled meeting of the City of Westport Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) is set for Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 12:30 p.m. in Westport City Council Chambers at 506 N. Montesano St.
The committee studies options and considers submitted proposals for using the 5% excise taxes collected in the city each year that are earmarked for tourism promotion, and then makes recommendations to the City Council for specific expenditures approval.
The meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.
Earthquakes and Tsunamis
Sept. 6 - 1-2:30 p.m., for adults. Westport Timberland Library presents Earthquakes and Tsunamis. Knowing what to do when earthquakes and tsunamis strike can help you be more resilient. Join local naturalist Julie Tennis for a discussion about these natural disasters and how you can prepare yourself, your home and your community.

Family event prior to Firefly Parade
Oct. 11 - Prior to the Firefly Parade on Saturday Oct. 11, the Grayland Fire Department will host a free event from 6-8 p.m. at the Grayland Fire Department with music, free hot dogs and pop, along with a Halloween Contest for the kids.
Pacific County Dems meet
Oct. 13 - Pacific County Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 14, at the Pacific County Courthouse Annex, 1216 W. Robert Bush Drive in South Bend.
The group meets in South Bend on the second Monday of each month, with the exception of July, August, September and November.
