Tokeland/North Cove Chamber

Aug. 9 - Tokeland/North Cove Chamber of Commerce members will meet at Bayshore RV Park at 9 a.m. All individuals interested in the community, whether you are a business owner or not, are welcome to come and express your ideas and share your community needs.

Meetings are usually held the second Tuesday of the month.

Fire District #3

Aug. 9 - Grays Harbor Fire District #3 commissioners’ monthly meetings are held at Old Westport City Hall at 506. N. Montesano St. in uptown Westport. Use the door next to the former Police Department entrance.

South Beach Fire & EMS Board

Aug. 11 - The South Beach Fire and EMS Board meets in Westport City Council chambers on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend.

Summer LEGO® Club

Aug. 12 - 3:30-4:30 p.m. for children. Explore your creativity, exercise your brain and have fun building with LEGO® bricks at the library. More info: 360-268-0521

Monthly Writers Group

Aug. 13 - South Beach Writers Group meets from Noon to 2 p.m. in the Westport library meeting room for writers high school age and older.

Bring an excerpt to read: Poem, short story, blog or book chapter. The goal is to inspire and encourage fellow writers. New members always welcome.

The group meets the second Saturday of each month.

Grays Harbor Genealogy Society

Aug. 13 - The members of the Grays Harbor Genealogy Society will meet at noon at the home of Stan & Bonnie Johannes, 95 Valley Rd, Hoquiam, for their Potluck Picnic.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group

Aug. 16 - Alzheimer’s Association family caregiver support groups provide a consistent and caring place for people to learn, share and gain emotional support from others who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with memory loss.

The support group meets from 1 – 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen, located at 420 N. Broadway St.

DAR meeting

Aug. 20 - The Robert Gray Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a meeting for prospective DAR members from 10 a.m. to noon at the Polson Museum, 1611 Riverside Ave. in Hoquiam.

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible to join the DAR.

American Legion

Aug. 23 - Westport American Legion Post #140 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet in the VFW Youth Center for a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. meeting. The Youth Center is located behind the VFW Post Home at 211 E. Pacific Ave. in Westport.

Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of each month February through November.

Friends of Library

Sept. 1 - 1 p.m. Join them to discover what’s new at the library, learn how to become more involved in the Westport community and meet new people. The group meets the first Thursday of each month except Dec., Jan., June, July and Aug. More info: 268-0521

GH County Dems

Sept. 1 - The Grays Harbor Democratic Party Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the Polish Club, 823 West First Street, Aberdeen. The group meets the first Thursday of September-November, and February-May, except on holidays.

Grayland Neighborhood Watch

Sept. 1 - Members of Grayland Neighborhood Watch will meet at 7 p.m., at the Grayland Community Hall.

Rick Montour, president and CEO of Good to Grow, will discuss his Grayland Marijuana growing business and its security features.

All South Beach citizens are invited to attend. The group usually meets the first Thursday of each month.

Seafood Festival & Craft Show

Sept. 3 - Traditionally held on Saturday of Labor Day weekend, this perennial favorite features heaping plates of great food, live music, and local crafters. Vettes at the Marina

Sept. 3 - Dozens of classic Corvettes will grace the parking spaces along the Westport Marina Esplanade during the Seafood Festival, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the Corvette Club of Grays Harbor’s 6th annual Show ‘N Shine. More info: 360- 589-1716 or 360- 580-0984

Westport/South Beach Senior Center

Sept. 5 - Monthly board meetings are held at 1 p.m. the first Monday of each month at 114 E. Pacific Ave. in uptown Westport. All seniors 55 and older and living in the Ocosta School District are welcome and urged to attend. Lunch is served at noon Monday through Friday. Bingo is played every Tuesday after lunch.

VFW Men’s Auxiliary

Sept. 5 - Westport South Beach VFW Post #3057 Men’s Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. in the VFW Post Home in Westport. All Men’s Auxiliary members and potential members are encouraged to attend. The group meets the first Monday of each month.

Parks & Rec meeting

Sept. 5 - South Beach Parks & Recreation District commission members meet at 6 p.m. at the Grayland Community Hall. The District owns and manages the Grayland Community Hall and its surrounding grounds.

All community members residing within the boundaries of the Ocosta School District are automatically members of the Parks & Recreation District. Public attendance at meetings, participation and suggestions are encouraged and welcomed.

The commissioners usually meet the first Monday of each month.

North Willapa Artist Community

Sept. 6 - The North Willapa Artist Community will meet at 6 p.m. at the Bayshore RV Park gathering room. The park is located at 2941 Kindred Ave. across from the Tokeland Hotel.

The group promotes the study and appreciation of art through exhibitions, fairs, lectures, classes and public displays in the Tokeland and North Cove area.

Any and all artists are welcome. More info on Facebook at: North Willapa Artist Community. The organization meets the first Tuesday of each month.

Grayland Water District

Sept. 6 - The regular monthly Grays Harbor Water District No. 1 Commission meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the Water District office located at 2058 SR105.

Meetings are normally held on the first Tuesday of each month.

SBCO Board meeting

Sept. 6 – The South Beach Christian Outreach (SBCO) board of directors will hold a workshop meeting and potluck at 4:30 p.m. at Living Hope Church, located at 617 S. Forrest St. in uptown Westport.

Anyone interested in learning more about how SBCO helps neighbors in need in our community or volunteering to help is welcome to attend. The board meets the first Tuesday of each month.

Lodging Tax Advisory Committee LTAC

Sept. 7 - The regularly scheduled meeting of the City of Westport Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Westport City Council Chambers at 506 N. Montesano St. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.

The committee studies options and considers submitted proposals for using the 5% excise taxes collected in the city each year that are earmarked for tourism promotion, and then makes recommendations to the City Council for specific expenditures approval.

The meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month September through June.

North Pacific County Neighborhood Watch

Sept. 8 - The North Pacific County Neighborhood Watch will meet 6-8 p.m. at the Shoalwater Bay Tribal Center. All South Beach community members are welcome to attend.

The group usually meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

Westport Blues Festival

Sept. 9, 10, 11 - Held at Cranberry Road Winery on the corner of SR105 and S. Forrest St. at the Grayland ‘T’. Beer garden, fun, food and music, featuring several Blues Bands.

A Downton Abbey Tea

Sept. 10 - 2-3:30 p.m., for adults. Fans of Downton Abbey, it’s teatime! English-born Claire Hollenbaugh, now of Grayland, presents a traditional British afternoon tea. She will serve up a dollop of history along with tea, cream, jam and scones. More info: 360- 268-0521.

Brady’s Oyster Feed

Sept. 10 - Traditionally held the second Saturday in September. Oysters any way you like ‘em: Held at Brady’s Oysters just west of the Elk River Bridge on SR105. Proceeds go to clean water promotion and OHS scholarships. More info: 360- 268-0077 or 800- 572-3252

Freedom Walk

Sept. 11 - All South Beach community members and visitors are invited to join the annual South Beach Freedom Walk. Meet at 11 a.m. at the Grays Harbor Lighthouse. More info: 268-9543

Ocosta Booster Club

Sept. 11 - The Ocosta Booster Club monthly meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the Ocosta High School library. All South Beach citizens interested in our schools are invited to attend.

The booster club provides financial support for athletic and academic programs, sports banquets, individual camps, state competitions, sports equipment and scholarships for students at Ocosta Jr/Sr High.

The group meets the second Sunday of each month at 7 p.m. September through June.

Westport Marina Salmon Derby

Sept. 15 – Oct. 31 - Come fish for salmon at the Westport Boat. Fish right off the floats for salmon and vie for Derby prizes. More info: 1-800- 345-6223 or 360- 268-1030

Grayland Children’s Hospital Guild

Sept. 15 - The Grayland Children’s Hospital Guild will meet at 11 a.m. South Beach Presbyterian Church on SR105, a quarter-mile south of the Grayland ‘T’. New members always welcome. Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month with the exception of July, August and December.

Library closed

Sept. 15 - All Timberland Libraries will be closed Thursday, Sept. 15, for All Staff Training Day. Libraries will resume regular schedules Friday, Sept. 16.

Library Readers Group

Sept. 16 - 10-11 a.m., for adults. Read or listen to “All the Light We Cannot See: A Novel” by Anthony Doerr and join your friends and neighbors in a lively discussion. For more information call 360- 268-0521.

Beginning Polymer Clay Workshop

Oct. 11 - There will be a full day, polymer clay workshop offered at the SBAA Community Arts Center, on Sunday, Oct. 11. Skills taught include an introduction to tools, color blending, cane making, baking, sanding and more.

The class led by Connie Newton is limited to six students, so that all can receive intensive, hands-on instruction.

The class runs from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. All tools and materials are provided, and students will bring home either a finished pendant or worry stone, and all canes made in class.

Fee is $50 per student.
