Editor’s Note: The Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission issued the following Recreation Alert early Tuesday evening, Jan. 12:
The foot path from Westport Lighthouse State Park to the Ocean Avenue pedestrian crossing is closed until further notice for safety reasons. Erosion on the beach has caused a 7-foot vertical drop-off from the path to the beach, preventing safe access. The closed area is well marked, and we appreciate your cooperation in staying clear from that area.
The Lighthouse Dune Trail, the paved trail between Westport Light State Park and Westhaven State Park, is open and allows visitors spectacular views of the ocean, access to three viewing platforms and gets you close to the beach.
Foot access to the beach is available at Westhaven State Park to the north and the Schafer Road Ocean Beach Access at Twin Harbors State Park. The closest vehicle access is the Bonge Road Ocean Beach Access, south of Twin Harbors State Park.
