At the regular Westport City Council meeting on Monday, March 14, City Council members passed a motion to extend the moratorium against the permitting of Medical Marijuana Collective Gardens and the licensing, permitting and operation of marijuana processing, marijuana producing and marijuana retailing businesses inside the City of Westport.
This is the fifth six-month extension to a moratorium that first went into effect in September of 2013. The moratorium and its extensions are for the purpose of allowing the City to study the issues and develop a plan regarding the permitting of Medical Marijuana Collective Gardens and the licensing, permitting and operation of marijuana processing, marijuana producing, and marijuana retailing businesses inside City limits.
At that same meeting, the Council took comments on the recommendation of the Westport Planning Commission to allow Medical Marijuana Collective Gardens and the licensing, permitting and operation of marijuana processing, marijuana producing and marijuana retailing business in the MUTC2 (Mixed Use Tourist Commercial) Zone with various buffers from schools, playgrounds, public parks, recreation centers or facilities, public transit centers, game arcades and the public library.
