Ocosta PTO receives $3,000 grant from Farrington Endowment Fund

The Ocosta School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) recently received a $3,000 grant from the Jack and Neddie Rose Farrington Endowment Fund.

A portion of these funds will be used to supplement students’ special needs, including purchasing badly needed items like new shoes and toiletries for the school counselors’ emergency closet.

The remainder will go to support special requests made by teachers.

“We are so lucky to have this gifted to us. Neddie Rose was a community treasure, and it’s wonderful to have her spirit live on in the community through this generous grant,” said PTO President Michelle Kachman.

Neddie Rose Farrington was a Westport Matriarch, the owner and operator of the Islander Motel & Charters from its construction in the early 1960s until she retired in 2004.

The trustee granted the money as an open gift, and based on Neddie Rose’s legacy, the PTO decided to use the funds towards students’ needs.

The Ocosta Parent Teacher Organization is composed of all parents, teachers, grandparents, and caregivers of students that attend the Ocosta School District. The organization exists to raise funds to supplement school district programs, conduct student and community events, and carry out teacher appreciation activities.
