WESTPORT — Ocosta defeated Forks 10-5, but the Spartans rallied to edge the Wildcats 6-5 in a non-league doubleheader at Dorland Park on Saturday.

The Wildcats (13-1) notched 16 hits in the first game to bat there way to victory. However, Forks rallied to put up four runs in the seventh inning in the nightcap to hand Ocosta its first loss of the season.

Ocosta’s Evalyn Marsh, Kaylee Barnum and Mekenna Fletcher each finished the first game with three hits, with two of Barnum’s hits being home runs.

“We hit the ball against some of the best pitching we’ve seen all year,” Ocosta head coach Jason Barnum said. “We saw the ball really well.”

Forks came up with the big hits when they needed them in the second game, getting a triple from Kierra Brandt to score three runs and a double from Myah Rondeau to add the winning run.

“What a great game,” Jason Barnum said. “We got up and they battled back. It was just beautiful, solid fastpitch. It was some of the best competition we’ve seen all year and my kids responded.”

Ocosta hosts North Beach on Monday.
