No team title was in the offing this year, but Ocosta athletes won three events at the Ray Ryan Memorial Grays Harbor All-County Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Aberdeen.
Ocosta’s Kathryn Anderson was a double winner in the girls 800 and 1,600 meters. Cosmo Silver won the boys 300-meter hurdles at the Miller Junior High track.
The Wildcats had captured the girls team championship — the first by a Harbor 2B girls team — in 2016. Heavy graduation losses precluded a repeat, but the Wildcats were sixth in both the boys and girls team standings.
Anderson, a senior, won a pair of superbly paced girls distance races, taking the 800 in 2:38.53 and 1,600 in an even six minutes.
The versatile Silver, better known as a pole vaulter, was a somewhat surprising winner of the boys long hurdles in 44.84.
“We’ve been sort of waiting for that to happen,” Ocosta coach Aaron Anderson said. “He knocked about two seconds off his personal best.”
Coach Anderson also praised the performance of high jumper Dustyn Taylor.
